ICU Equipment List

Organize the equipment around bed spaces, the observation model, shared clinical support and service continuity.

An ICU equipment package is a clinical service plan as well as a purchase list. Start with the patient group, planned level of care and staffed capacity. The local clinical team defines the care scope; the equipment brief should connect that scope to the bed-space layout, utilities, consumables and technical support.

Build the list in four layers

Use the layers below to discuss availability at the bed, availability in the unit and support from the rest of the hospital. Quantities follow the clinical and operating plan.

LayerEquipment to consider
Bed spaceCritical-care bed, patient monitoring, infusion and syringe pumps, equipment mounts
Respiratory supportVentilation equipment and compatible circuits/accessories selected for the clinical scope
Shared clinical supportDefibrillation, suction, selected testing and access to imaging as planned
Daily operationTrolleys, storage, cleaning and support furniture, service and spare-parts arrangements

Review the space around the patient

Place equipment on a coordinated bed-space plan. Consider staff access, observation, cleaning, patient transfer, power points and medical-gas outlets. Equipment positions should remain workable when several staff members or a mobile system are present. Check cable and tubing routes and whether ceiling or wall-mounted equipment needs structural support.

Specify compatibility and continuity

A pump, monitor or ventilator needs compatible accessories and consumables, user preparation and a technical service route. Identify what can be standardized across the hospital, what can be supported locally and how device downtime will be managed. Review backup power and the unit’s medical-gas infrastructure with the engineering team.

Link procurement to operating readiness

Create a schedule that brings room preparation, installed equipment, stock, training and documented acceptance together. Assign an owner for the equipment inventory, routine checks and service records. A phased ICU opening can be planned around the beds that are fully equipped and staffed, with the next phase defined in advance.

Prepare your first discussion

Share the intended bed count, care scope, layout and current equipment list. We can help coordinate the equipment and engineering questions in one review.
