Planning a Complete Laboratory Equipment List

Translate the test menu into analytical platforms, sample-handling equipment and a workable reagent and service plan.

A complete list is complete for a defined service. A small routine laboratory and a hospital referral laboratory need different platforms, throughput and support. Begin by agreeing the tests to perform locally, the tests to refer and the service hours, then build the equipment and operating plan around that decision.

Map analytical groups to the test menu

The existing Xentra laboratory references cover several levels within the groups below. Choose the level from workload, turnaround, staffing and the reagent pathway.

Testing areaPlatforms to review
Hematology and morphologyHematology analyzers; slide preparation, staining and morphology where needed
Chemistry and electrolytesClinical chemistry, electrolyte, blood-gas and selected specialist analyzers
Coagulation and immunoassayCoagulation systems and immunoassay platforms matched to the menu
Urinalysis and routine microscopyUrine chemistry, sediment systems and microscopes
Microbiology and molecular testingCulture, identification, susceptibility, extraction and amplification where included

Include the pre-analytical and support work

Walk through registration, collection, identification, transport, preparation, testing, reporting and disposal. Depending on the agreed methods, the plan may need sample-handling workstations, centrifuges, appropriate storage, water treatment, safety equipment and information-system links. These support needs should be reviewed with the laboratory team rather than left outside the purchase list.

Evaluate the operating model

Compare throughput with actual sample patterns, including peaks and low-volume specialist tests. Ask about reagent format, shelf life, storage, calibration, quality control and access to service. A platform that is attractive on instrument price may create a difficult operating model if reagent supply or trained staff cannot be maintained.

Write a comparable request

Provide the test menu, estimated daily volumes, current instruments, staffing and destination. Identify mandatory methods or interfaces and indicate where alternatives can be considered. Include startup reagents, controls, accessories, training, installation and service assumptions so supplier responses can be compared on the same basis.

Prepare your first discussion

Send your test menu or laboratory BOQ with approximate workload and destination. We can help connect the platforms, support equipment and operating requirements.
